So who's the fairy godmother of the skincare advent calendar 2026 ?

(and who is still dressing up the ugly sister for Christmas...)

The luxury beauty advent calendar has evolved from a niche marketing tool into a genuine retail battleground. Dermalogica's entry is a useful case study in strategy, pricing and what these boxes are actually worth now.

The short answer - years 2023-25 meh.

2026 ? I'm getting three for myself…

With a pricetag of £229 & value of £546 - it's a big number next to the word value that shouldn't impress on its own. But does the value still hold once you take out everything you don't need or want ?

The approach this year is built around products people genuinely reach for and everyone can use, travel sizes worth keeping, and full size heroes rather than filler. I've felt its'e been a bit of a tease before - large products they want you to buy, a bit too Scrooge to let you have the savings on what you asked Santa for.

When it launched in 2023 it sat at £249. This year's value has climbed to £546 while the price has held around the £229 mark, finally adding higher-tier serums.

I actively encourage clients to buy it. It undercuts what I can offer in clinic across the rest of the year, because my own cost on a single sample sachet runs to £2.50, a vial of Neurosculpt serum closer to £6, and even a basic travel cleanser over £10 trade price.

This is your chance to stock up, try before you commit to full size, & build a travel kit, at a cost or offer that won’t be matched outside of it.

Why buy ?

You get premium formulas at a fraction of their individual retail cost

It's the easiest way to trial high-end active ingredients before committing to full size

You end up with perfect travel minis for 2027

Before you buy any skincare advent calendar, five honest questions...

  1. Does it actually match my skin concerns, not just look impressive ?

  2. Are there at least 3 generously sized products I already use or genuinely want to try ?

  3. Does the real value match or beat the price, once I'm honest about what I'll use ?

  4. Do I have room in my routine to actually get through these ?

  5. How much of that headline value is stuff I'll end up giving away ?

Kiss, marry, avoid, the advent calendar edition.

best value goes to Cult Beauty £245 and Space NK £275

Multi-brand calendars like these have a verified value of around £1,000, with full-size holy grail products pulled from several top tier brands at once.

But that also means formulations you might not use - hand cream - and around half are new launches - potentially a good thing. I’m simply not a fan of the headliners this year enough to want the also rans. Personally I'm not prepared to spend £245 on random skincare unless I know the contents, just for fun.

the one to marry is Liberty

It's the gold standard for a reason, built around niche names like Diptyque & Augustinus Bader in genuinely collectible packaging, it sells out on prestige & curation alone. It's a pass this year from me (I often prefer the men's below) - pedestrian. But don't believe the hype, they don't sell out as early as the media often claim. The pre marketing has the whiff of desperation, but I wouldn't have found Ex Nihilo Fleur Narcotique acouple of years ago, had I not.

the 'one's' to avoid

Single brand - not just skincare advent calendars - the likes of Neom or Jo Malone, unless you love the entire range. I'm only a fan of the containers on the former, & Jo Malone becomes a very pricey air freshener. The Telegraph have a strange way of reviewing the calendars - Dermalogica comes top for skin, but they clearly didn't get a free one, so they don't say why. They also commend Body Shop... Forty years ago yes, now it's the gift choice for people you don't like. Historically criticised for style over substance, Chanel's (albeit occassional) seasonal flirtations are often priced north of £600. A fair few doors hold stickers, temporary tattoos, empty dust bags & keyrings - boohiss...

Liberty 2026 mens skincare advent calendar

So back to my Dermalogica choice (give me a break, it's the first time I've purchased it).

£229 in, £546 out, but the number that matters to you is how much of it you'll actually use.

If you come to me flexing you've sold half of the stuff for a few quid each to a friend from your Liberty calendar in September already, I wonder where the joy in that is.

if I asked you to close your eyes, hand me a wad of money lets say £200-£300 in exchange a massive cardboard box with mostly trial sizes of stuff you've never heard of - how excited would you be ?

You aren't saving money buying things you don't need that are highly unlikely to improve your skin. And frustratingly, you have just fallen for the marketing.
